Protein classesThe protein classes are groups of genes classified based on features such as function, cellular compartment, evidence or involvement in disease. The plots in the Protein class focus box summarise data on expression profiles, GO-term enrichment, protein evidence, predicted location and experimental subcellular location for the genes in the protein class selected in the Protein class drop-down menu. The expression classification data underlying the pie charts and bar plots displayed for each protein class can be changed between tissue data, single cell type data and cell line cancer group data using the top right slider. Gene lists corresponding to the displayed data can be obtained by clicking on numbers in, or parts of, pie charts, bar plots and treemap plots.
In Table 1 each row shows the total number of genes for a particular protein class and the number of genes with experimental data from in-house antibody-based profiling. All protein classes have been categorized into three different tables: "Function and compartment based", "Disease and drug related", and "Evidence based". Clicking any of the numbers in the tables results in a search result with the selection of genes belonging to the class along with additional data. For each class, where applicable, there is also a link to the original source of the gene list. Some protein classes contain a selection of subclasses which unfolds when the parent class (shown in bold and with arrows) is clicked. Some subclasses (marked with an asterisk) are not included in the total number of genes for the parent class. Table 1: All protein classes
